This house demonstrates that knockdown-rebuilds aren’t always big, bland boxes that take up their whole block, but can be stylish, compact, flexible and environmentally responsible. This house has been designed on passive solar principles with a northern orientation, concrete slab floor, highly insulated walls and roof, and double-glazed windows. It has an 8.1 star energy rating an
d is very comfortable to live in with minimal need for extra heating or cooling. The all-electric house also has a 13 kW PV system and battery which has virtually eliminated the need to draw electricity from the grid. Although the house is slightly larger than the one it replaced, it has less driveway and more space for a growing native garden.

The house has now been occupied for about 12 months and the owners are happy to share their experience of living in the house over both Summer and Winter and what features have worked well and things they may have done differently. Even if you are only renovating your home, you will certainly pick up lots of information here on how you can create an energy efficient and comfortable house and a native, water sensitive garden.
If you visited this inspiring house in June, you are welcome to come again, and see how it operates in the Summer climate. Learn about the brand new wicking beds and rocky ephemeral wetland which has been thriving in the rain.
Please do not attend if you are unwell or have been in contact with a person who has tested positive to Covid-19. Face masks are encouraged.
Please note you will be asked to remove your shoes on entry to the house.
After you register the address will be sent via email closer to the date.
