We run several programs and events focused on leadership development, particularly for youth. As young people inherit the risks and responsibilities of mitigating climate change impacts, it is essential that they are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to take on those challenges.
The Parliament of Youth on Sustainability is an annual program that culminates in a one day mock-Parliament event at the ANU. Groups of school students from kindergarten to Year 12 research and develop proposals on how we can make Canberra a more sustainable city, and present them at the Parliament.
Future Film was a film competition & festival that aimed to flip the switch on the climate crisis. We’re putting young people at the forefront to seek creative solutions to our most pressing environmental problems. It’s time to regenerate the planet for our generation’s future!
This project was run in partnership with Australian Academy of Science, Canberra Short Film Festival and ACT Government.
SEE Change provides support to the newly established College Sustainability Network. This network has been created by college students for college students, and aims to increase the cooperation between colleges in Canberra in implementing sustainability initiatives in their schools.
Each year, students studying at the ANU Fenner School of Environment and Society work with SEE Change to research and report on a complex environmental or societal problem.
Our current group is working on creating a model for community environmental organisations to become financially independent, which when complete, can be a shared resource for other local organisations.
SEE Change offers internships for university students, youth and those re-entering the workforce to contribute to certain projects, events and programs, learn the ins and outs of working in a community organisation, and gain valuable organisational skills and sustainability knowledge.

Future Film is the short film competition & festival that’s here to flip the switch on the climate crisis. We’re giving young people a creative platform to express their ideas to solve our most pressing environmental problems. It’s time to regenerate the planet for our generation’s future.
2020 saw the first ever Future Film Festival. The theme was ‘Reimagining Canberra’s Future’. Young filmmakers created awareness about current and future environmental issues, as well as showing off brilliant sustainable ideas for a better future. Genres ranged from fiction animation, to documentary, to stop motion.
SEE Change offered a free online mentoring program, to ensure filmmakers had support in their creative process, even throughout COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions.
A screening of all of the entries was held on Friday 27 November 2020 at the Shine Dome. 11 films were screened, and 3 winners announced. The winners and runners up are as follows:
