Create a SEE Change Group
SEE Change’s success is driven, in a large part, by the work of our volunteer Groups. People like you, who had an idea and the passion to turn that into a project. Projects like UpShop, the Toolbox, repair cafes and Electrify Canberra are all volunteer-run passion projects. If you have an idea that you think someone should turn into reality, maybe it’s time. Maybe it’s you.
We have a defined process for creating a group and we’ll support you all the way.
Step one: the vision
What is your idea? What will it take and what does success look like?
Explore these questions by downloading our workbook and completing the first two exercises:
a project logic and business plan. We can help you refine them.
If this process has firmed your idea and you’re itching to make it happen, complete this expression of interest (EIO) and attach your work.
Step three: the go-ahead
SEE Change is an incorporated organisation and is overseen by a board. The Executive Director will take your idea to the board for their approval. Day-to-day decisions will be yours (as long as they align with the SEE Change Constitution and vision) but big and/or decisions go to the board. The board members will satisfy themselves that your project aligns with SEE Change goals and guiding principles, and that it has potential.
Step five: the launch
By now, your project plan is very clear and we have a solid understanding of how to proceed. We’ll begin this step by completing the last of the foundational documents: strength/weakness/ opportunity/threat (SWOT) and risk analyses.
Depending on the nature of your project, this is when you will start looking in earnest for grant opportunities or developing a crowdfunding campaign. You will be guided by the Executive Officer through existing policies and procedures.
Step two: the detail
When we’ve received your EOI, we’ll contact you to flesh out the detail.
Together, we’ll review your submission and make sure that your inputs, outputs and outcomes and clear and achievable. The time investment will vary depending on how complex your project will be and the level of development that this step requires.
Step four: the relationship
SEE Change provides significant support to its groups and this step defines the rights and obligations of both parties. We’ll work through and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
SEE Change will provide:
insurance
bank accounts and accounting
$500 seed funding
DGR status - which allows you to receive tax deductible donations
mentoring
promotion through social media and regular newsletters
graphic design
opportunities for networking
You will:
complete and return the MOU within two weeks of receiving it
comply with our policies and procedures (which will be available before finalising)
Step six: the future
You’ll be settling into business as usual and we’re here to help. As we will have covered in the MOU and through our policies and procedures, you will report to SEE Change every six months and we’ll catch up as required. We are committed to our combined success and we’re here to help.
