Reusables Library

The SEE Change WasteLess group maintains a library of reusable items that can be borrowed at no cost for events. Events can include meetings, seminars, school fetes – anywhere there are a group of people and food and/or drink is provided. Using our reusables at your next event will save money and reduce waste.

Items that can be borrowed include:

Mugs – used for tea, coffee, coffee or other hot or cold drink.

Bowls – ideal for curries, pizza pieces, sweet deserts

Cutlery – Forks, Knives, Spoons and Teaspoons

The SEE Change WasteLess group is currently investigating making dinner plates available through the library.

Commonly asked questions

How do I arrange to borrow items from the Library?

Please download and complete the order form from here (link to order form). Please ensure the completed form is submitted at least a week before your event. A member of the SEE Change WasteLess group will then be in contact to confirm arrangements.

How do I collect items from the Library?

The arrangements for collecting and returning items will be discussed with you after you have submitted your order form. The aim is to find an arrangement that works well for both you and SEE Change.

Do I need to wash the items before returning?

No. At some events, you may not have dishwashing facilities. In such cases, place the unwashed items back in the containers provided and SEE Change WasteLess volunteers will wash. If you do have dishwashing facilities, it is preferable that items are returned washed. Indicate if you plan to wash the items on the order form.

How much does it cost?

Nothing, except for the costs of replacing any items not returned ($2 mug, $4 bowl, $1 cutlery).

Is it really better to use reusables when you have to wash them?

Reusing reusables will use less water and energy and fewer resources over time compared to using disposables. The break even point is usually between 5 and 100 uses, depending on the type of item and what it is replacing. Many people use compostable single-use items, but these do not avoid waste as they go to landfill in the ACT and also use more resources over time than reusables. Do you accept donations?

SEE Change is very happy to receive donations to help cover the costs of running the library. You can make a financial donation through the SEE Change website seechange.org.au. To make a donation of mugs, plates, bowls or cutlery, please email wasteless@seechange.org.au
