Dire Straits Bike Party
Canberra by Bike event
This bike party celebrates the music of British rock giants Dire Straits (1977-1995), which was led by guitarist and singer songwriter, Mark Knopfler.
Their debut album, Dire Straits was recorded at Basing Street Studios in London from 13 February to 5 March 1978, and included the hit single, Sultans of Swing. The album was released on 9 June 1978.
Dire Straits sold more than 120 million albums, including Communiqué, Brothers in Arms, and On Every Street. Their hit singles include Money for Nothing and Calling Elvis.
As always, you choose the songs for our bike parties playlists, so let me know what Dire Straits or Mark Knopfler tracks to play.
Our bike parties are slow, social rides around a set route. The idea is to promote social connections and being outside, so you turn up on your cycle/scooter/skates, and we'll take care of the rest.
You must bring your own lights, and have a plan if you get a flat tyre or other mechanical fault. Bring something warm in case it gets windy by the lake.
This route is one loop around Lake Ginninderra, approx. 7km. It's mostly flat and is on shared paths. There are inclines approaching the Lake Ginninderra bridge.

Peter Allen Bike Party
Canberra by Bike event
Grab your maracas and join our celebration of the Boy from Oz, Peter Allen, for what should have been his 82nd birthday.
Bring anyone you know who loves Peter Allen's songs or has yet to experience them, and join us for a joyful, slow, social ride from the Street Theatre to see the National Triangle differently.
We head clockwise around the Central Basin of Lake Burley Griffin, stopping at the Jetty on the south bank for refreshments, then stop at Lindy Lee's Ouroboros sculpture at the National Gallery of Australia before returning at the Street. Give us your song requests and we'll blast them from our Partybox speaker we carry on our cargo bike.
We welcome all people on all cycles and scooters. The route is about 7km, is mostly flat (save for the Commonwealth Ave and Kings Ave bridge approaches), and there are toilets at multiple locations along the way.
Please bring your own lights, and something warm to wear as it's usually cold around the lake after sunset.

Slow social ride
Canberra by Bike event
Croissants and coffee? ✅
Cheese tasting? ✅
Socialising on cycles? ✅
This slow, social ride which celebrates croissants, cheese, and being outside in the sunshine.
This one supports local businesses in Dickson and Belconnen. Lilette is renowned for their almond croissants and other pastries. Le Cheeserie stocks numerous cheese varieties from Australia and around this sweet old world.
We'll have croissants (plain or almond, you choose) waiting at Lilette, while Kaitlyn from Le Cheeserie will explain three cheeses that we'll also sample.
This ride is about 9km each way. There are three hills between Dickson and Belconnen's Capital Food Market. We'll ride on mostly separated shared paths that are lumpy in many places.
Guests must bring their own cycle/scooter/skates, and a lock. We ride at our own risk.
Reservations here.
